Passage Island 2008 Canadian Iron Championships

On Saturday, August 16th, 2008, Outrigger teams will take
to the waters off Jericho Beach, around Passage Island and back, for the title of Canadian Iron Champions! Join us for what promises to be a great day of racing, entertainment and dare we hope, wind and sunshine.....

Location: Start/Finish at the Jericho Sailing Centre

$1200! Prize money goes to to the top finishers in the women's, men's and mixed crews (regardless of category). Prize money donated by CORA. Prizes for 1st to 3rd in all full race categories.

Registration Fees: $150.00Cdn/US per crew (includes BBQ, draw prizes, post race entertainment and party)
- IF you register by August 5th. After August 5th, registration is $180 per crew.

Schedule: 8:00am - 12:30pm: Race Day Registration
9:30am - Short Course/Novice/Junior Race
11:30am - Women's Open Race
2:00pm - Men's Open Race (30 minutes after the last women's crew)

Steerspersons meetings 30 minutes before race time.

5:00pm - Beer Garden, BBQ and Live Hawaiian music
6:00pm - Awards ceremony, race presentations, CORA Cup and season wrap up
7:30pm - Door prizes
9:00pm - Aloha.....

Luau, BBQ and Awards: Post races: stick around as the fun will begin on site as soon as the formalities are over. The food and entertainment promise to be fantastic! Free for paddlers, $10 for kids and $15 for adults.

This year's entertainment is the world famous Langley Ukulele Ensemble! This renowned group performs 50 to 80 concerts a year, locally and around the world. Be prepared for some beautiful music to dine by.

Tides: Low tide (approx.): 12:11pm, 0.8 meters/2.5 feet
High tide (approx.): 7:26pm, 4.4 meters/14.3 feet

Safety: 6 functioning PFD's per boat, 2 small bailers and a bucket. This race can be in big water - spray skirts are highly recommended. We don't have any spare spray skirts so if you are bringing your own boats, bring the skirts!

Boats: Other than for the short course race, we likely won't have any spare OC6's available for this race. If you need to borrow a boat, we suggest that you post a message on the CORA Message Boards.

Race Course: Long Course - Women/Men/Mixed
Teams will line up off of the Jericho pier for the start of the race. Paddle north to Point Atkinson lighthouse. Turn northwest towards Passage Island, go around the island and head back to the Jericho pier for the finish. The distance is approximately 24 kilometers/15 miles. Note: Subject to change to take best advantage of race day conditions.

Short Course - Novice/Junior
Line up off the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club pier for the start of the race. Paddle around the red bell can and back to the finish at the Jericho Pier. The distance is approximately 13 kilometers/8 miles.

2008 OC1/2/Surfski Championship Challenge - Sunday, August 17

Canadian National Small Boat Race

Location: Start/Finish at the Jericho Sailing Centre

Registration: Sunday, August 17, 9am at the Jericho Sailing Centre
Note: Boat numbers will be provided and are required to be taped on the right front of all canoes.

Registration Fees: $15.00 per paddler
We don't have any spare OC1's available for this race. If you need to borrow a boat, we suggest that you post a message on the CORA Message Boards.

Race Times: Women/Mixed:     10:30am
Men: 12:00am

Race Course: The race starts at the Jericho pier, facing east. Paddle east to a marker between the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and the Kitsilano Yacht Club. Turn at the marker, paddle west to the bell can and back to the Jericho pier. Distance is approximately 13k.
Note: race courses are dependent on weather and conditions. Changes may have to be made.
